Our Man Beagle in Havana Hawaii
By Janet Watkins
[Editors’ note: Our daughter Lili lived with family on Maui this summer–surfing, fishing, swimming, cliff-diving, working as a counselor at a farm camp and as a barista in a coffee shop. We thought it would be nice to send our dog Luke over, too. He sent us back these pictures.]
High tide at Haena Point on Kauai.
“No dog is an island.”
“Feeling a little edgy.”
“From here to eternity. Also, when is dinner?”
“You hide while I close my eyes and count to 20.”
Dogfishing.
“What? No surf on top of Haleakala??
“I smell rain.”
“No philosophers so thoroughly comprehend us as horses and dogs.” –Herman Melville
“Is your last name Cogburn by any chance?”
“Kayaking? How am I supposed to hold a paddle with no opposable thumbs?”
Sunsetting.
“Morning already? Must have fallen asleep on the beach.”
Ruff life.
